Submissions
Submissions for SNAP Festival
Town Hall Theatre Company is seeking full-length, never-produced plays from underrepresented playwrights living in the 9 Bay Area counties for a workshop/performance opportunity. These works should be in the latter stages of the creation process.
Town Hall Theatre Company's SNAP (Spotlight on New American Plays) Festival is dedicated to showcasing plays by historically underserved playwrights. We are committed to amplifying the stories of BIPOC and other communities, often absent on LORT and Broadway stages. These writers have frequently been denied the tools, opportunities, and developmental support accessible to their peers from dominant cultural backgrounds. Through SNAP, our aim is to enrich the pipeline of American theatre with voices that reflect a more inclusive and diverse landscape.
Selected playwrights will:
Receive a total of twelve hours of rehearsal, culminating in three performances.
Be supported by a director, stage manager, dramaturg and professional actors to aid in the developmental process.
Engage in a post-show conversation after each performance, guided by a dramaturg or other qualified facilitator to gather constructive audience feedback for future revisions.
Receive a stipend of $500.
Criteria
Preferred length: 90 minutes or less.
Cast size: Ideally up to 4 actors (character doubling is welcome).
The play must be unpublished and unproduced (Zoom and staged readings are acceptable).
Playwrights must reside in one of the following counties: Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Napa, or Solano.
Submissions are open exclusively to playwrights from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
We especially encourage plays that address current, relevant issues affecting the Lamorinda or broader Bay Area communities.
Preference will be given to works in the final stages of development that are still being revised or refined.
Limit: one play submission per playwright.
No fee to apply.
